During my formative years, somewhere in the early ’70s, I listened to the song “Born To Be Wild” by the band Steppenwolf over and over again on the Longines Symphonette vinyl record I ordered from the back of a magazine–along with 12 others–for only one cent.
It was a come-on to get you to sign up for their record club.
Once you signed on the dotted line, you were sent a new album every month at a cost of substantially more than a penny, unless you remembered to mail a notice to the company, which was often for me, and as a result, I racked up a lot of bills for records I didn’t want in the first place.
I loved that Steppenwolf album and all the songs on it, particularly ‘Born To Be Wild.'”
Get your motor running
Head out on the highway
Searching for adventure
And whatever comes my way
Born to be wiiiiyyiiild
I thought about that song last week when I attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.
A lot of water has gone over the bridge since I first heard that song in the basement of my parent’s home. I’m not so wild anymore, but I do keep searching for adventure.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the Holy Mecca for bikers the world over.
Even though it rained a lot during the opening weekend, it was still a great event.
I hope you enjoy this video of the first Saturday in Sturgis.
That Jack Daniels band was pretty darn good Wayne and I noticed those scantly dressed waitresses were in the way of your videos….lol
Only thing I can think to make this visit any better would meet the great Governor Kristi Noem. Thanks Wayne, I enjoyed the video
